When is Spride Share launching?
Soon! You can help this process by showing your support for
Assembly Bill 1871 in California. AB 1871 will allow vehicle owners to participate in "personal car sharing" without impacting their current insurance policy.
As a car owner, how much money can I make?
Spride Share exists to help you save money on your current monthly car expenses. Earnings will depend on the type of vehicle you own and how often you make it available for Car Sharing. On average, vehicle owners can earn thousands a year:
What is the cost of Spride Share membership?
Spride Share is free for qualified vehicle owners. It allows you to make money by sharing something you already own. For members, rates are comparable to existing car sharing rates but with greater car availability in more convenient locations. Spride Share takes a service fee for operations and insurance.
How will members access my car? Will we have to exchange keys?
Each member is issued a key fob that allows access to your car for the duration of the reservation. Holding the key fob over the car’s windshield unlocks the doors. The actual key will be waiting near the ignition switch.
What is the Car Sharing device and what does it do?
The hardware provides access to your vehicle, tracks mileage usage, records car access times, and ensures that your car is working properly.
How long does it take to install the Car Sharing device?
4 – 6 hours. You will be able to use another Spride Share car during the installation process.
Will the Car Sharing device damage my car? Is it permanent?
Installing the hardware is similar to installing an aftermarket car alarm system. It will not void your existing car warranty, and no damage will be caused to your vehicle.
What happens if the member doesn't return the car on time?
The driver will pay a late fee.
What happens if a member is involved in an accident while driving my car?
Spride Share membership includes supplemental insurance from a reputable insurance provider that covers you, your car, and the individual using your vehicle during the car sharing period.
How does this affect my current auto insurance policy?
Because we provide insurance for the period during which your car is used by others, your own insurance carrier has no additional exposure. We support legislation to prevent insurance companies from denying coverage if you choose to make your car available for Car Sharing.
What happens if the vehicle needs gas?
We provide gas cards that bill to Spride Share. If the gas tank is less than 1/4 full, the member will use the card to fill it up. We deduct the cost of the gas from your monthly earnings.
Is smoking in my car allowed?
Smoking in Spride Share vehicles is prohibited. If you smell smoke in your vehicle after the Car Sharing period, please contact us. We will identify the responsible driver and in some cases cancel his or her membership.
What happens if someone leaves my car dirty?
The driver will be assessed a penalty. In some cases, the driver’s Spride Share membership will be canceled.
What do I do if members leave items in my vehicle?
If you find something in your car that does not belong to you, please contact us. We will schedule a time to pick up the item and return it to its owner.
What happens if a member gets a ticket (parking or moving violation) while using my car?
The driver is responsible for any traffic or parking violations that occur while using your vehicle. If you receive a parking ticket in the mail, please contact us. We will pay the fine and collect the money from the responsible member. Our system maintains detailed information about vehicle use and the identity of the driver.
What happens if someone damages my car (scratches, dents, broken mirror)?
As the car owner, it is important to periodically check for scratches, dents, and other damage to your vehicle. If you notice an incident, please contact us as soon as possible so we can find the responsible driver. Our supplemental insurance will cover the expense, and we will charge the driver the amount of the insurance deductible.
